Overview

The Certified Local Government (CLG) program is a preservation partnership between local, state, and national governments focused on promoting historic preservation at the local level. The program is jointly administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS) and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Participating communities become an active partner in the federal historic preservation program and gain access to exclusive benefits, including annual grant funding opportunities. Every year, funding is provided through the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) to CLGs for projects that identify, document, preserve, and tell the story of historic properties significant in history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, and/or culture. CLGs can also sponsor projects for non-profit organizations and public entities within their boundaries.
