Overview

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is inviting applications for the FY24 National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) Supplemental Funding. This funding opportunity is made available under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The main objective of this program is to help reduce violent crime and tackle gun violence. This can be achieved by enhancing the accuracy, usefulness, and cross-state accessibility of criminal history records and related data. This will, in turn, support national record systems so that they can be used more effectively in conducting criminal history record background checks based on names and fingerprints.

The development of this program was guided by the provisions stated in Title III, Division B (3) – Appropriations of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (P.L. 117–159).
