Overview

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has announced the availability of funding for their Caribbean Partners for Conservation (CPC) program for the fiscal year 2024. The objective of the funding is to address local natural resource issues, promote collaboration, and develop community and state-level conservation leadership in the Caribbean Area, specifically Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The NRCS is seeking proposals specifically for projects that promote conservation as detailed in Section A (2) of their notice, with an emphasis on collaborative projects which provide practical support for Caribbean NRCS Field Offices. The program is not accepting research proposals. The agency anticipates allocating up to $1.5 million for this program in the 2024 fiscal year.

Eligible entities include city or township governments, county governments, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, state governments, nonprofits (both those with or without IRS 501(c)(3) status), and institutions of higher education. Proposals should be for projects lasting between one and three years, and organizations may use this opportunity to request additional funding for existing Caribbean Area agreements.

Successful applicants may need to attend administrative training. They may also be required to deliver formal presentations on project updates to Caribbean NRCS leadership.

Details on objectives, eligibility criteria, and application instructions are outlined in the funding notice. All proposals will be screened for compliance and completeness, with incomplete or non-compliant proposals being eliminated and the applicant notified.

New users of Grants.gov can find guidance on application procedures in Section D of the funding notice. Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on May 8, 2024. For technical support, contact Grants.gov Applicant Support at 1-800-518-4726 or support@grants.gov.

Questions regarding the content of the funding requirements should be directed to the federal awarding agency contact outlined in Section G. However, questions about eligibility or the merits of a specific proposal will not be addressed.

The agency expects to make award selections by June 1, 2024 with aims to execute awards by July 20, 2024. Please note that these dates are approximate and may change.
