Overview

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are appealing for applications for a grant aimed at assisting states in the development and implementation of a process for informing vehicle owners and those leasing vehicles about open recalls at the time of registration. This grant is open to eligible departments or offices from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

The goal of this grant is to aid states in creating a method for identifying open recalls on motor vehicles and informing the owners or lessees about these recalls whilst they are registering their vehicle. The grant will also support states in evaluating the efficiency of this notification program through an analysis of the recalls that are completed.

Those who are awarded this grant will be required to implement the recall notification program for a time frame of two years, after which they are to evaluate the program's results. The primary aim of this grant is to improve safety communication and aid consumers in making informed decisions about safety recalls.
