Overview

NSWC Crane, a field operation of the Naval Sea Systems Command, focuses on enhancing the technological capacities of various government entities in the interest of national security. Its Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) aims to garner innovative research ideas and technology demonstrators that have the potential to elevate NSWC Crane’s primary mission areas.

These mission areas include providing a multitude of services such as research development, test and evaluation, acquisition engineering, in-service engineering, and technical support. NSWC Crane also brings component and system-level product and industrial engineering to sensors, strategic systems, special warfare devices, and electronic warfare systems.

Their work is encapsulated in a mission statement earmarking their commitment to leveraging technology for the Warfighter. In this endeavor, they specialize in three key focus domains: Expeditionary Warfare, Strategic Missions, and Electronic Warfare.

There are ten technical capabilities (TCs) associated with these domains, namely:

1. Electronic Warfare

2. Infrared and Pyrotechnic Countermeasures

3. Strategic Systems Hardware

4. Expeditionary Warfare and Systems

5. Advanced Electronics

6. Sensors and Surveillance Systems

7. Hypersonic Weapon Systems

8. Power and Energy Systems

9. Electro-optic and Infrared Technologies

10. Force level EW Mission Analysis, Advanced Concepts, and Technologies

These TCs provide multiple thrust areas, harboring significant potential for innovative research and solutions to reinforce national security imperatives. Some ideas might be relevant to more than one TC; such proposal will be highly appreciated though not mandatory.

Potential proposers should take care to identify their primary and secondary TCs in their applications. The BAA encourages aspirants to familiarize themselves with pre-existing NSWC Crane solicitations to minimize duplicated efforts and refer to the points of contact for each BAA topic for specific proposal details.
