Overview

The Historic Preservation Fund plans to give out Annual State Historic Preservation Office Grants in FY2024. This grant program is designed to help manage State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) across the United States, which includes all 50 states, 5 territories, 3 Freely Associated States, and the District of Columbia. The guidelines for these grants are outlined in the Historic Preservation Fund Grants Manual, and it's important to note that all staff and project proposals must adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards where it applies.

The objective of this grant program is to allocate matching funds to states for the purpose of identifying, evaluating, and protecting historical properties. These goals can be achieved via surveys, planning, technical help, physical preservation, and using federal tax incentives that are available for these historical sites. Projects can also include nominating places for the National Register of Historic Places, assisting federal, state, and local government agencies, providing financial support to Certified Local Governments, helping nonprofit organizations, and aiding private individuals who are actively involved in promoting historical preservation activities.

Every award handed out through this program must comply with the federal law 54 U.S.C. 3001 et seq, more commonly referred to as the National Historic Preservation Act. Illustrating a commitment to this act ensures that funding supports the maintenance and protection of our nation's historical properties.
