Overview

The Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (UAIP) Competitive Grants Program is offering grants to support the growth of urban agriculture and innovative farming methods. This program primarily caters to communities where access to fresh food is limited or unavailable, such as farmers, gardeners, schools, tribal communities, and government officials among others.

The UAIP grants will cover both planning and implementation activities. Planning support will aid in starting, developing or boosting farming initiatives, while implementation support will help in bolstering existing or emerging urban and innovative agriculture models that benefit multiple farmers or gardeners.

Innovative agriculture could involve new and emerging techniques, as well as indigenous or unconventional agricultural practices. To apply, new users must first register on Grants.gov as described in Section D of the main Notice of Funding Opportunity.

Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on April 9, 2024. For troubleshooting or technical support with the Grants.gov platform, applicants can call 1-800-518-4726 or email support@grants.gov. For inquiries related to the content of the application requirements, applicants can contact the federal awarding agency mentioned in Section G of the Notice of Funding Opportunity. It should be noted that no questions regarding eligibility or specific proposals are entertained.

Along with the Notice of Funding Opportunity, an informational webinar has been recorded and its presentation and supporting details can be found through this link: https://youtube/IhLfF2b6DMg.

The agency anticipates to select grant recipients by June 30, 2024, and aims to execute the award by September 30, 2024, however, these dates are tentative and may be changed.

The minimum federal share per award (floor) is estimated at $75,000 and the maximum (ceiling) at $350,000. These numbers refer to the total funding amount of the agreement, not the budget for a specific period.

Applicants are highly advised to take the free Grants 101 Training, available at https://www.cfo.gov/resources/federal-financial-assistance-training/ to better understand federal financial assistance. The training contains five modules that focus on laws, regulations, guidance, financial assistance mechanisms, administrative requirements, cost principles, risk management, and single audit details.
