Overview

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), specifically the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), is currently inviting applications for a grant program focused on firearm violence and mass shootings research and evaluation. This initiative is part of the DOJ's furtherance of its commitment to promoting civil rights, equity and access to justice, while bolstering community safety, helping victims of crime, those impacted by the justice system, and enhancing trust amongst law enforcement and communities.

The program aims to fund projects specifically oriented towards the prevention, and intervention of intentional gun violence, and mass shootings within the United States. This call for applications falls under two categories. The first focuses on research into mass shootings, with subsets that look at the role of the news media, social media platforms and internal threats. The second category is concerned with researching the effectiveness of campaigns, primarily implemented in schools or through school staff, that educate parents, guardians, and relatives on how to store firearms safely and securely.

With this grant program, the DOJ continues its mission to maintain the rule of law, ensure national safety, and safeguard civil rights.
