Overview

The Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) Program: Health and Function (Research) is a program aimed at facilitating research and related activities to benefit individuals with disabilities, with a particular focus on those with the greatest support needs. The main goal of the initiative is to maximize their integration into society and improve their independent living, employment prospects, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency. Additionally, the program seeks to enhance the effectiveness of services under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

For this specific component of the DRRP program, applicants are required to propose a research project that is aimed at enhancing the health and function outcomes of people with disabilities. A successful grantee should identify and investigate one or more research questions in a thorough and systematic manner. The study should be directed toward producing new scientific knowledge or gaining an in-depth understanding of the topic or issue.

The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) will offer three types of DRRP awards in the health and function domain: research projects, development projects, or a blend of the two. The categorization depends on the evaluation provided by the peer review panel. Each grant will cover a 60-month project period, split into five 12-month budget periods.
