Overview

The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), a part of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP), is currently inviting applications for their Fiscal Year 24 Adult Treatment Court Program. The DOJ and OJP are dedicated to furthering efforts that not only uphold civil rights and fairness, but also broaden access to justice, assist crime victims and those affected by the justice system, and enhance community safety. The aim is also to protect the public from crime, respond to emerging threats, and foster a relationship of trust between law enforcement and communities.

With this specific grant opportunity, the BJA aims to extend both financial and technical assistance to a range of entities. These include state and local courts, state level government, units of local government, as well as federally recognized Indian tribal governments. The goal is to help these entities plan, establish and improve the functioning of adult treatment courts. Funding could be used to better coordinate management and services for court participants, uphold the integrity of the adult treatment court model, and implement recovery support services.

Adult treatment courts play a vital role by effectively blending evidence-based substance use disorder treatment, mandatory drug tests, incentives, sanctions, and transitional services within a judicially monitored criminal court context. They function under the jurisdiction of individuals who require substance use disorder treatment, with the goal of reducing reoffending rates, enhancing access to treatment and recovery support, and preventing overdoses.

Overall, this program aligns with the DOJ's mission to uphold the rule of law, maintain national safety, and safeguard civil rights.
