Overview

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), which is part of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs, is calling for applications for its FY24 Research and Evaluation on Hate Crimes grant. The initiative is designed to support the advancement of civil rights, justice access, victim support, community safety, public protection from crime, and fostering trust between law enforcement and communities. The grant encourages comprehensive research and evaluation projects that would contribute to better policy-making and strategies addressing hate crimes.

Particular emphasis will be on applications that focus on: assessing the effectiveness of strategies funded at the federal, state, or local level for fighting hate crimes; research that leads to preventive strategies for hate crimes; and assessment of strategies to enhance reporting, identification, and response to hate crimes. The program is also interested in examining techniques to improve the outcomes for hate crime survivors and their communities.

An underlying objective of this program is to bolster the DOJ's mission of promoting the rule of law, enhancing national security, and protecting civil rights.
