Overview

The OVW (Office on Violence Against Women) Research and Evaluation Initiative is set to dispense funds for the fiscal year 2024, aiming to enhance attitudes and strategies towards the prevention and handling of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The scheme's essence lies in generating substantial information about effective practices in serving victims and bringing culprits to justice. This will help communities benefiting from the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) funding to align with proven effective practices and develop their own capacity to evaluate innovative and promising methods.

To ensure varied and comprehensive viewpoints, the initiative promotes partnerships between researchers and practitioners and encourages the application of diverse research and evaluation methods. These include qualitative, mixed-method, quasi-experimental, and experimental designs. However, due to limited funds, the initiative places higher significance on issues that would greatly benefit from a stronger evidence base. This will ultimately aid OVW grantees in utilising federal funds more efficiently to combat violence against women.
