Overview

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, particularly the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), is seeking partners including Indian Tribal Organizations, local, state governments, non-profit bodies, and higher-education institutions for a conservation grant. Named "New Mexico Conservation Technical Assistance for Outreach and Education", this program aims to promote public awareness and the execution of conservation activities mainly within New Mexico.

Funding from this grant can be used to conduct outreach workshops and trainings that will educate The State's agricultural community, private landowners, conservation organizations, cooperating agencies, and land grants on conservation. Proposals for research projects are not eligible, but projects related to conservation education are encouraged.

Interested entities should submit projects for consideration that are aimed to be concluded within a year. Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by 11:59pm Eastern Time on April 13, 2024. Eligibility criteria and application instructions can be found in the notice of funding opportunity.

However, do note that non-compliant or incomplete proposals will be removed from competition and the applicant notified. The New Mexico State Conservationist also has the discretion not to fund any or all applications.

The NRCS plans to make selections by April 29, 2024, and execute awards by June 30, 2024, although these dates are subject to change. Applicants can expect a minimum agreement funding from the federal share per agreement awarded to be $10,000, whilst the maximum could reach $20,000.

Lastly, all applicants are highly advised to undertake the Grants 101 Training for better understanding of federal financial assistance. This training covers topics such as laws, regulations, financial assistance mechanisms, administrative requirements, cost principles and risk management. It is available for free at https://www.cfo.gov/resources/federal-financial-assistance-training/.
