Overview
For clarity, the program is not open to clinical trials (U01), but instead targets research at various levels of development. The project aims to identify potent biomarkers of radiation injuries and foster the development of assays or devices. Such tools are essential for triage, which would help evaluate the severity of the absorbed radiation dosage and predict the potential health implications of acute or delayed injuries caused by radiation exposure.
The ultimate goal of this NOFO is to back the growth and enhancement of these approaches to a level that can eventually meet criteria for official regulatory approval.
