Overview

The International Research Scientist Development Award (IRSDA) is a program that offers support to advanced post-doctoral U.S. research scientists and newly appointed U.S. junior faculty. Those eligible to apply must be at least two years beyond the conferral of their doctoral degree. This program specifically targets those who are interested in developing a mentored research career in low- or middle-income countries (LMIC), which are classified by the World Bank. These countries may include "low-income", "lower-middle-income", and "upper-middle-income" nations.

The IRSDA's main purpose is to protect the development time of these scientists and faculty members, providing dedicated time of three to five years for this career development. This program is instrumental in fostering an independently-funded research career with a focus on global health.

The IRSDA is currently inviting applications under this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). It is open to applicants from any health-related discipline. Applicants are encouraged to propose career development activities and a research project that aligns with the health priorities of the LMIC, and the program should be developed under the guidance of mentors from both the LMIC and U.S.
