Overview

The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (also known as the SSG Fox SPGP) is a program that allows the Veterans Affairs (VA) to support local efforts in suicide prevention. It specifically aims to cater to the needs of veterans and their families via outreach, suicide prevention services, and linking them to the appropriate VA and community resources.

This grant program aligns with the VA’s National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide, which was instituted in 2018. The approach of this strategy combines evidence-backed clinical strategies with community-based preventative measures.

The SSG Fox SPGP forms a part of the broader Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act which was signed into law on October 17, 2020. The purpose of this act and the grant program is to engage community efforts in suicide prevention, fostering a team approach to improve the mental health of veterans.
