Overview

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of the Director is inviting applications from organizations from Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible states to fulfill roles in the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) IDeA States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network (ISPCTN). These roles include being the Data Coordinating and Operations Center (DCOC) or one of the ECHO ISPCTN Clinical Sites.

The DCOC will facilitate five multicenter clinical trials, addressing areas such as pre, peri, and postnatal outcomes, airway conditions, obesity, neurodevelopment, and positive health. Each trial will focus on prevention or treatment related to one of these areas, with the collective goal of covering at least two of the five fields.

Part of the DCOC responsibilities will be to support the ECHO ISPCTN Clinical Sites in their research, ensuring children from rural or underserved communities are included. This involves building pediatric clinical trial research capacity in states funded by the ECHO ISPCTN and fostering relationships with important parties such as community members, nonprofit organizations, and professional societies to increase the effect, transferability, rigor, and feasibility of clinical trials.

The ECHO ISPCTN itself is a part of a larger program, aiming to advance the health of future generations through research and intervention. Additionally, it strives to provide scientifically valid research outcomes applicable to the health of children from rural regions through rigorous methodologies and sufficient participant recruitment and retention.
