Overview

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), a branch of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP), has announced a call for applications for its FY24 research grant. The focus of this grant will be research on the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults. The OJP is dedicated to promoting civil rights and equity, bolstering access to justice, assisting crime victims and those affected by the justice system, enhancing community safety, and safeguarding the public from crime and emerging threats.

The grant aims to fund comprehensive research and evaluation projects focused on four key areas:

1. Assessment of programs designed to prevent, intervene in, or address the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults.

2. Evaluation of prevention and education initiatives that aim to combat financial fraud and exploitation of older adults - particularly gauging the effectiveness of scam prevention messaging campaigns.

3. Investigation into the types of individuals who abuse (financially, physically, sexually, and/or emotionally) or neglect older adults.

4. Forensic research into radiographic evidence and bioinformatic strategies relevant to the physical abuse of older adults.

This program is in line with the DOJ's mission to uphold the rule of law, ensure the safety of our country, and protect civil rights.
