Overview

The NEA Research Grants in the Arts is a program for fiscal year 2025 that provides support for research studies examining the value and impact of the arts within the broader U.S. context. This can include study of the arts as standalone entities or how they interact with other parts of American society.

The NEA encourages submissions that consider the focus areas set out in its research agenda for fiscal years 2022 to 2026. To align your proposal with this focus, it is advisable to review the full research agenda available through the "Guidelines and Application Instruction" link. By doing this, you can ensure your proposal addresses the right topics and poses relevant research questions.

The four key research areas outlined by the NEA are:

1. The impact of arts on health, education, and the economy.

2. The role of arts in transforming communities and promoting healing.

3. The issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the arts.

4. The changing dynamics of the arts ecosystem in the U.S.

In order to qualify for the Research Grants in the Arts program, your proposal should align with at least one of these four topics. Whenever possible, try to tackle research questions that are identical or similar to those given in the NEA's research agenda for fiscal years 2022 to 2026. Remember, careful consideration of the aforementioned points while preparing your application will improve your chances of success.
