Overview

The National Cancer Institute is launching a funding opportunity, the Advanced Development of Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management, to encourage cooperation on the development of advanced informatics technologies. The purpose of this grant is to enhance emerging tech designed to improve data and knowledge management through its acquisition, analysis, and dissemination. This encompasses various cancer research spectrum, like cancer biology, diagnosis, early detection, risk assessment, prevention, control, epidemiology, and cancer health disparities.

As part of the NCI's Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Program, the focus is on emerging technology that has gone beyond the initial prototyping and pilot development stage, and demonstrated the potential for broader impact. Technologies should also have strong reasons for further enhancement, yet remain largely unrecognized in the cancer research sector.

The ITCR program's primary mission is to facilitate the expansion of research-inspired informatics technology to address cancer research's priority needs. Successful proposals will have a clear rationale explaining the need for the proposed technology and its potential benefits to cancer research. Plans must include a mechanism for obtaining feedback from collaborators and users throughout the development.

For potential applicants drawn to early-stage development or informatics resource sustainment, it is advisable to consult the related funding opportunities mentioned above.
