Overview

The National Cancer Institute is offering the Investigator-Initiated Early Phase Clinical Trials for Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (R01 Clinical Trial Required) grant. The goal of this renewed grant opportunity is to fund research projects that will spearhead early phase clinical trials (Phase 0, I, and II). Specifically, projects should focus on cancer-directed diagnostic and therapeutic interventions that align with the research missions of both the Developmental Therapies and Drug Discovery Program (DCTD) and the Office of HIV and AIDS Malignancy (OHAM).

To qualify, potential projects must include at least one clinical trial that pertains to the scientific focuses of one or more research programs. These programs include the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program, Cancer Imaging Program, Cancer Diagnosis Program, Radiation Research Program, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Program, and the HIV and AIDS Malignancies Research Programs.

Applicants for this grant can propose to conduct an early phase trial either by itself or in collaboration with other suitable research objectives. This opportunity seeks to encourage and support innovative, investigator-initiated research to improve the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer.
