Overview

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) pertains to the development of innovative informatics methods and algorithms for cancer research and management. Through the invitation of exploratory/developmental research grant applications, also known as R21, we are seeking new methods to improve various aspects of cancer research. This includes the acquisition, analysis, visualization, or interpretation of data in areas such as cancer biology, treatment and diagnosis, early detection, risk assessment and prevention, and cancer control/epidemiology.

As part of the National Cancer Institute's Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Program, our main focus is to support the development of novel informatics capabilities. These should demonstrate a high degree of innovation that could potentially speed up or enhance research. For an application to be successful, the proposed informatics method or algorithm has to be original and demonstrate how it will be useful in the field of cancer research.

Please note that projects proposing the use of existing methods or algorithms will not be considered for review. The novelty of the proposal must lie in the informatics method itself, not in the biological or clinical question being pursued.
