Overview

The Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01) is a grant specifically designed to support the career development of researchers working in the field of tobacco regulation. This grant provides financial support and dedicated time (for a duration of three, four, or five years) for researchers to engage in a supervised, intensive career development experience. The supported research will focus on biomedical, behavioral, and social science research that holds potential to shape the development and assessment of regulations governing the manufacturing, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products.

One of the main aims of this grant is to enable the supported researchers to achieve research independence. The research projects carried out under this grant must align with the research priorities associated with the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). This is in accordance with the mandates of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. Importantly, this grant does not allow for independent clinical trials.
