Overview

The Strategic Technology Office (STO) of DARPA is actively seeking innovative and transformative ideas. The ultimate focus is to equip the U.S. military and national security establishments with advanced and reliable tools to function efficiently in every physical domain - air, space, sea, and land. Their vision extends to all scopes of competition, including prevention measures to intense peer-to-peer combat.

The STO's core aim is to carry forward DARPA's goal of developing inventive technologies that are high in risk, but potential reward. The focus is on challenging, ground-breaking, and revolutionizing projects that bring about substantial changes or shifts in technological capabilities. The new methods provided should offer our troops innovative ways of approaching combat.

Further, the STO proposes to design and deploy solutions at a tremendous pace and size to remain operationally pertinent within a relatively compressed timeframe. The objective is to move from project initiation to proof of concept within just a few years. The STO also positions itself as a ‘systems office’, indicating its intention to pioneer new ‘proof-of-concept’ mission systems. The ultimate goals of STO include developing and showcasing fresh capabilities that push the boundaries of what is technically achievable.
