Overview

The Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01) is a grant aiming to provide support and protected time for researchers. This time can range from three to five years and facilitates intensive, supervised career development. The focus of the research should be in biomedical, behavioral, and social science fields. The intent of the award is to contribute to our understanding of how to develop and evaluate regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing practices.

The ultimate goal for the beneficiaries of this award is to gain independence in conducting their research. It's important that all research projects under this award align with and address the research priorities set by the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products. This comes as a result of the authority granted by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), as outlined in Public Law 111-31. Additionally, an Independent Clinical Trial is a requirement for this grant award.
