Overview

Topology, the grant, aims to support research across various areas of algebraic topology including homotopy theory, ordinary and extraordinary homology and cohomology, cobordism theory, and K-theory. It further encourages investigations in topological manifolds and cell complexes, fiberings, knots, and links along with differential topology and actions of transformations groups. Furthermore, it also encourages exploration in geometric group theory and general topology and continua theory.

The grant also accepts conference proposals which include workshops, summer/winter schools and similar activities. These proposals must adhere to the program solicitation titled "Conferences and Workshops in the Mathematical Sciences" and should clearly specify Topology as the primary program of interest. It is essential for Principal Investigators to thoroughly review the solicitation and the pertinent segments of the PAPPG to gain complete understanding on the basis of such proposals and become aware of additional prerequisites for travel support requests for international events.

Communication of proposals having budgets not exceeding $50,000 that can be internally reviewed at NSF must coincide with the target dates. For events planned between March and August, proposals should be submitted in September of the preceding year. If the event falls between September and final day of February the subsequent year, the proposal must be submitted in the prior April.

Should a proposal include a budget request over $50,000, a prolonged processing time may be needed due to mandatory external review. Therefore, these proposals are advised to be submitted approximately seven months prior to the scheduled event.
