Overview

The Graduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (G-RISE) is a program aimed at diversifying the pool of scientists earning a Ph.D. with the skills necessary to transition into successful careers in the biomedical research workforce. This funding opportunity provides domestic institutions with the means to create and implement comprehensive, evidence-supported approaches to biomedical training and mentoring that stay up-to-date with the swiftly evolving research industry.

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) anticipates proposed research training programs to be comprehensive, incorporating elements of didactic learning, research, mentoring, and career development. This combination is necessary to equip trainees with the right skillset to make a significant contribution to the nation's health-related research needs.

For this specific program, only applications from research-active institutions are eligible. To qualify as a research-active institution, an establishment must exhibit a three-year average of National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Project Grant funding totaling less than $7.5 million.
