Overview
The grant is split among several core programs, each with a distinct focus. The Division of Computing and Communication Foundations (CCF) oversees the Algorithmic Foundations (AF), Communications and Information Foundations (CIF), Foundations of Emerging Technologies (FET), and Software and Hardware Foundations (SHF) programs.
The Division of Computer and Network Systems (CNS) manages the Computer Systems Research (CSR) and Networking Technology and Systems (NeTS) programs. The Division of Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS) is responsible for the Human-Centered Computing (HCC), Information Integration and Informatics (III), and Robust Intelligence (RI) programs, while the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) focuses on the OAC Core Research program.
Applicants can propose projects in three classes. Small Projects have a maximum budget of $600,000, last up to three years, and may be submitted to CCF, CNS, and IIS. Medium Projects have a budget range of $600,001 to $1,200,000, are allowed up to four years, and can be proposed to CCF, CNS, and IIS. Lastly, OAC Core Projects have a limit of $600,000 and a duration of up to three years and are only eligible for submission to the OAC.
