Overview

The Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) is a funding opportunity that encourages thorough investigation of the effects that human genetics and genomics have on society. This includes the study of ethical, legal and social ramifications. The grant is open to applications proposing to use either single or mixed research methods.

While there are a variety of acceptable approaches, they may include empirical qualitative and quantitative studies, or conceptual, legal, and normative analyses. The engagement of key stakeholders is strongly supported when relevant. This grant specifically encourages research into the implications of the latest or upcoming genomic technologies, as well as unconventional uses of genomic information.
