Overview

Windows on the Universe: The Era of Multi-Messenger Astrophysics" (WoU-MMA) is a program that focuses on studying the universe using three categories of messengers - electromagnetic waves, high-energy particles such as neutrinos and cosmic rays, and gravitational waves. Each messenger provides a unique perspective, and together, they offer a comprehensive image of the universe enabling us to understand matter, energy, and the cosmos in new and innovative ways.

The goal of the program is to improve the capabilities and create a productive partnership between observations and theory. This is in an effort to foster integrated, multi-messenger astrophysical explorations of the Universe. The program accepts proposals meeting one or more of these criteria: projects aimed at coordinating observations from multiple messengers, research involving astrophysical objects or phenomena that are potentially sources of multiple messengers, or efforts into theory, experiments, simulations, and other undertakings to comprehend and interpret observations of astrophysical objects that are multiple-messenger sources.

WoU-MMA program looks for proposals that can accelerate the progress of multi-messenger astrophysics. They are particularly interested in those enhancing communal activities that have been developed within the initial five years of the program's existence. Emphasis is put on proposals that promote the convergence of research communities and develop complete interoperability among the three messengers, as well as inspire the cultivation of a skilled workforce.

However, it is essential to understand that this program does not aim to replace existing programs associated with the experimental or theoretical work related to the three messengers. Instead, it seeks to fund projects emphasizing the significant elements of multi-messenger astrophysics. Priority is given to dedicated efforts significantly contributing to the program's objectives.

It is recommended that proposals for consideration should have "WoU-MMA:" at the beginning of their title. Proposals should only specify interest for consideration and review as a WoU-MMA proposal if they meet the provided criteria. It's also important to note that proposals non-compliant with the criteria but marked for consideration, will only be evaluated within the context of the respective programs to which they were submitted. Supplement requests to existing awards within a program that meet the set criteria are also considered
