Overview

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is offering a grant termed "Reaching Equity at the Intersection of HIV and Substance Use: Novel Approaches to Address HIV Related Health Disparities in Underserved Racial and/or Ethnic Populations". This grant is part of NIDA's Racial Equity Initiative (REI). REI is a complex, long-term program that aims to eradicate racial discrepancies within NIDA’s organisational structure, scientific workforce, and research work.

This grant aims to stimulate new research, both observational and intervention-based, on a variety of factors that lead to imbalances in the fight against HIV and substance abuse within disadvantaged racial and ethnic communities. These factors may include, but are not limited to, structural influences, organizational practices, policies, and other social, cultural, and contextual elements.

This research grant welcomes studies that consider the various aspects of individual identity such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity. It further promotes research that examines how these elements of identity intersect with social systems. Note also, that applying for this program doesn't necessitate the inclusion of a clinical trial.
