Overview

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is sponsoring a program called the Investigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down Syndrome, or INCLUDE. This program is part of the NIH's Research Education Program (R25), which focuses on enhancing research education in the areas the NIH is particularly interested in.

The main goal of INCLUDE is to better the health and improve the quality-of-life for those living with Down syndrome. It seeks to accomplish this by expanding and diversifying the pool of trained clinical research professionals working to understand the syndrome better.

As part of this effort, the NIH has announced a new Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) that invites applications for the creation of innovative, high-impact short courses. These courses should aim to train up-and-coming Down syndrome researchers in the most up-to-date clinical research skills.

The ultimate objective of these courses is to deepen the understanding of co-occurring clinical features in Down syndrome, and to aid in the creation of new treatments for the health conditions those with Down syndrome commonly experience.
