Overview

The Mathematical and Physical Sciences Ascending Postdoctoral Research Fellowships program (MPS-Ascend) aims to increase representation in mathematical and physical sciences fields, particularly for historically excluded and currently underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the United States. These include Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, Indigenous and Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Native Pacific Islanders.

The program seeks to identify and support early-career researchers showing considerable potential. It aims to broaden their horizons, facilitate interdisciplinary interactions, and foster increased diversity within the mathematical and physical sciences fields.

Participants will be funded to engage in research experiences that deeply impact their scientific development and support their transition towards becoming faculty members. This research can be undertaken in any scientific area covered by the five MPS Divisions including the Divisions of Astronomical Sciences, Chemistry, Materials Research, Mathematical Sciences, and Physics.

Importantly, these fellowships are presented directly to individuals and are not institution-based. The responsibility for administering these fellowships lies with the Fellows themselves.
