Overview
This grant proposal, titled "Targeting Inflammasomes in HIV and Substance Use", will not permit clinical trials. It aims to stimulate scientific research into better understanding the role inflammasomes play in the neuropathological changes caused by either short-term or long-term exposure to drugs and HIV infection. By exploring the function of inflammasomes in relation to drug and virus-induced immune response, research could potentially identify molecular markers and brain immune cells that are associated with HIV-1 infection or progression of diseases in substance users. Additionally, new therapies could be developed to regulate inflammasome activity, offering potential treatments for the neuroinflammation and immune disruption caused by these processes.
