Overview
The main purpose of this program is to enhance collaboration and communication amongst researchers in these areas and improve the overall effectiveness of their research. By organizing these researchers into Core Centers based on shared resources and research themes, this program aims to encourage new ideas and improve productivity in a cost-effective manner.
Each DDRCC must focus their research around a central theme relating to digestive or liver diseases, which acts as a point of focus for the Center's members. It’s important that the central theme aligns with the primary mission of the NIDDK, and does not overlap with thematic areas that receive primary funding from other National Institutes of Health organizations or centers. The objective is to ensure complementarity and avoid unnecessary duplication between various Institutes and Centers.
This grant does not require the proposed research to include a clinical trial, meaning these are optional for applicants. This allows flexibility for researchers to propose studies best suited to their respective specialist areas.
