Overview

The Comprehensive Alcohol-HIV/AIDS Research Center is welcoming applications for research center grants which aim to carry out impactful studies on alcohol and HIV/AIDS. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is specifically looking for research proposals devoted to understanding the effects of alcohol use, and other related factors such as substance use, mental health issues, and complications from medications, on the difficulty of managing and eradicating the global HIV/AIDS crisis.

This announcement aligns with the top-priority research topics outlined in the NIH Office of AIDS Research Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research for the years 2021 through 2025. This plan can be accessed at this link: https://www.oar.nih.gov/sites/default/files/NIH_StrategicPlan_FY2021-2025.pdf. Similarly, the research aspects required also tie in to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (2022-2025), which is primarily targeted at halting the HIV epidemic among substance users including alcohol and drug users. The strategy can be found here: https://www.hiv.gov/federal-response/national-hiv-aids-strategy/national-hiv-aids-strategy-2022-2025

In addition, the FOA strongly beckons applications for translational studies that focus on alcohol use as a risk factor affecting the prevention of HIV, the efficacy of treatment, and HIV-related comorbidities.
