Overview

The EHR Core Research (ECR) program is inviting proposals for its EDU Core Research grant, focused on driving fundamental scientific insight that supports STEM education. The research can either be of basic nature, driven purely by curiosity, or use-inspired, driven by a desire to apply the knowledge. This research should fall into one of the three main areas: Study of STEM Learning and Learning Environments, Research on Wider Participation in STEM fields, or Research on STEM Workforce Development. This could involve diverse target groups of any age, in both formal education and informal learning scenarios.

The ECR program values research that provides in-depth understanding and knowledge with wide applicability, even if the impact on practical STEM education may not be immediate. Whether the research is basic or use-inspired, all successful proposals should focus on enhancing the fundamental knowledge base for STEM education.

The ECR:Core solicitation allows for different funding amounts and project durations, depending on the nature of the proposed work and the scale of the empirical research. The funding has three levels: Level I proposals can request up to $500,000, Level II can request up to $1,500,000, and Level III can request up to $2,500,000. The project duration can vary between 3 to 5 years for any level of funding. Proposals should clearly justify the requested funding level and duration in the project description.
