Overview

The Single Cell Opioid Responses in the Context of HIV (SCORCH) Program presents a grant focused on Data Mining and Functional Validation. Notably, this grant does not allow for clinical trials. The objective of this initiative is three-fold. Firstly, it aims to support the mining of SCORCH data. The goal here is to identify cell types, transcripts, enhancers, and transcriptional networks that have a role in HIV or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) molecular responses.

Secondly, the program seeks to support functional validation studies. These can include manipulation of epigenomics or transcriptomics, high throughput secondary screening, and so on. The aim of these studies is to confirm or refute whether the cell types, transcripts, enhancers, or transcriptional networks identified through data mining indeed have a biological role in HIV or SUD molecular responses.

Finally, the initiative aims to provide foundational knowledge. Specifically, the initiative's goal is to gain understanding about the molecular mechanisms of SUD and/or HIV, including NeuroHIV cognitive phenotypes. This information is intended to generate validated targets that could potentially form the foundation for new therapeutic approaches to SUD or HIV.
