Overview

The Defense Sciences Office (DSO), an entity within the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), is offering a grant through its Office-wide Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The DSO’s mission is to identify and facilitate the creation of the next wave of scientific advancements, intending to drive innovation both in and outside the Agency. The DSO functions are akin to a mini-DARPA, and it has a proactive and ambitious portfolio that seeks to extend the feasible limits across various technical sectors.

The DSO aims to provide the Department of Defense (DoD) with a strategic advantage by pushing the boundaries of science. It endeavors to prevent our adversaries from catching us unawares by maintaining an understanding and anticipation of the direction commercial research and development is heading. The expectation is that our enemies will take advantage of available technology to develop new abilities in the future decades.

Furthermore, the DSO monitors global changes and assesses the potential implications those changes could have on our nation. Through these practices, it hopes to create an innovative and proactive defense strategy. The Office-wide BAA is a part of this larger mission.
