Overview

The National Science Foundation's Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) and the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) have come together to promote and support research that merges the fields of biological and mathematical sciences. Recognizing a need for groundbreaking studies at the intersection of these areas, both agencies aim to advance fundamental research in mathematics and statistics integral to progressing understanding in biological and biomedical sciences.

This joint initiative by DMS and NIGMS aims to foster new collaborations while buttressing innovative activities from existing teams. In terms of financial support, the initiative offers two tranches. Track 1 provides support up to $600,000 for projects planned for a duration of 3 years. Track 2, on the other hand, funds projects with a budget up to $1,200,000, meant to be executed over a period of 3 to 4 years.
