Overview
The grant is designed to support exploratory and developmental studies. These projects may be risky and might not result in immediate success. However, it's hoped that they may lead to significant progress or breakthroughs in using non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) for substance use disorder (SUD) research.
Grant recipients will be using R61/R33 Phased Innovation award activity codes to plan their mechanistic studies. These studies will aim to increase our understanding of a certain behavior or biological process, a disease's pathophysiology, or how a particular intervention works.
To qualify for this grant, all applications must fit the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) definition of a clinical trial. According to the NIH, a clinical trial is a research study where human subjects are assigned to one or more interventions (including placebo or other control). This assignment is aimed at evaluating the effects of the interventions on health-related biomedical or behavioral outcomes. (NOT-OD-15-015).
