Overview

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is launching a Racial Equity Visionary Award Program for research on Substance Use and Racial Equity. The overarching aim of this program is to support projects that align with the vision of racial equity and that seek to rectify persistent disparities, particularly those related to substance abuse. Under this program, the NIDA is inviting applications for the DP1 awards.

These awards are specifically directed to early-career investigators who demonstrate an exceptional level of creativity and innovation in their research proposals. The research should be designed to have a high impact, leading to significant advancements in promoting equity across population groups affected by substance use-related harm.

This invitation for applications is open to investigators from a wide range of research fields. However, there is a particular focus on research projects that address persistent or complex challenges related to racial and ethnic disparities in medical and other fallout from substance use and Substance Use Disorders (SUDs). Through the execution of these research projects, the NIDA intends to drive forward progress towards the reduction and, eventually, the elimination of these disparities.

In essence, the funding program supports initiatives aiming to improve health outcomes and extend better medical services to population groups disproportionately impacted by substances use and SUD-related problems.
