Overview

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is launching a project that aims to improve equitable maternal healthcare delivery and outcomes. The project includes the dissemination and implementation of the Safety Program in Perinatal Care-II. This is essentially a team-based training toolkit that will be used together with the enhanced Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) safety bundle. This bundle emphasizes respectful maternity care, which is the cornerstone of patient-centered care. The AHRQ will roll out this project in labor and delivery units across five states.

The project is tied to AHRQ's authorization under the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Trust Fund (PCOR TF) because it encourages the use and spread of proven, evidence-based maternity care practices within health systems.
