Overview
The outcome of the proposed projects, whether in the form of animal models, relevant materials, or technological tools, should be applicable to a wide variety of scientific interests. These interests should span across at least two departments within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Furthermore, the research should focus on diseases and processes that affect numerous bodily systems, aligning with ORIP’s mission and programs that span across NIH.
Applicants must demonstrate that their plans meet a significant need in the field and will have a significant impact across a wide range of disciplines supported by more than one NIH department. Proposals strictly tied to a certain disease or a specific research area, or not having a wide-reaching impact on the NIH-wide research community, will not be deemed suitable. The same ruling applies to projects that predominantly serve the research interests of one NIH department but are only mildly linked to the interests of other departments. This grant does not allow for clinical trials.
