Overview

The NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) is inviting the submission of applications for their Investigator Initiated Program Project (known as P01). These applications should not include a clinical trial. The P01 is designed to fund research projects in scientific fields that fall within the NIAID’s mission. Such areas of research include the study of the biology and pathogenesis of infectious microbes (including HIV), host-microbe interactions, how the immune system develops and functions throughout a person's life, and the immune system's response to infectious pathogens.

The grant also encourages research into immune dysfunctions that result in conditions such as allergies, asthma, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, or transplant rejection. Another major focus is translational research aimed at developing vaccines, therapeutic measures, and diagnostic tools for preventing and treating infectious and immune-mediated diseases.

In order to be considered for funding under this opportunity, each application must propose at least two interrelated research projects. These projects must be synergistic, sharing a common theme or focus. In addition, they need to be bound by an overall objective that aligns with the NIAID’s mission.

Each application is also required to include an administrative core. If the proposed research projects require it, they may also include scientific cores.
