Overview
The scope of research under this grant can include studies on a variety of conditions such as neurological, mental, alcohol and substance use disorders. Proposed research can range from the fundamental basics to the final stages of implementing findings into practical use. Eligibility is not limited to the United States, as scientists from upper-middle income countries (UMICs) are also welcome to partner with scientists in LMIC institutions. Moreover, scientists within UMICs can partner with other LMIC institutions regardless of whether they have a US partner. Income categories pertinent to LMICs and UMICs are defined according to the World Bank classifications.
The expectation is that the provided grants will lead to the creation of holistic research programs, contributing to long-term objectives of cultivating sustainable research capacity in LMICs. This ideally will enhance our understanding of nervous system development, function, and disorders throughout life, eventually leading to the development of diagnostic tools, prevention strategies, treatments, and implementation methods. Additionally, the proposed work may lay the groundwork for future research networking opportunities and drive the formulation of policies based on solid evidence beyond the specific research project.
