Overview
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is calling for applications to renew Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) grants. COBRE aims to strengthen the biomedical research infrastructure of an institution by establishing a thematically-driven, multi-disciplinary research center. The goal is not only to enhance researchers' competitive edge in securing individual research grants from National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other external sources, but also to bolster health-related research. This is achieved through the Institutional Development Award (IDA) Program, which specifically targets investigators at institutions located in states historically known for their low success rates in winning grant awards from the NIH. Key to the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is support for existing COBRE Phase 1 Centers by amplifying their research infrastructure and continuing to develop a critical mass of investigators with expertise in the Center's scientific areas of interest.
