Overview

This is a grant funding opportunity called Grand Opportunity in Medications Development for Substance-Use Disorders. It does not require a clinical trial and its aim is to expedite the development of treatments for Substance Use Disorders (SUDs). The grant welcomes applications that are keen to support a variety of preclinical and clinical research projects.

The ultimate aim is to finance those medication studies which can have influential results and rapidly provide the necessary evidence to move medications closer to FDA approval. It is anticipated that these grants will be short-term, with funding available for up to three years. The grants are also substantial, with up to $5 million available per year.

These are cooperative agreements that will be carefully monitored and involve significant scientific input from NIDA staff. Furthermore, these grants will facilitate essential studies in medication development, which would otherwise not be possible under the more traditional R01 activity code.
