Overview

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has a grant on offer, titled Research on Neurocognitive Mechanisms Underlying the Impact of Structural Racism on the Substance Use Trajectory, also referred to by the concept number 1862. The grant is open to both clinical and non-clinical research proposals (R61/R33).

The focus of this grant is to fund exploratory basic research that investigates interpersonal racism and the intricate effects structural racism may have broken down into their component parts. The ultimate aim is to understand how these elements affect neurocognition, leading to substance use.

In addition to the research on these aspects of racism, researchers are encouraged to prioritize producing knowledge that could be used to inform the creation of preventive interventions to counter substance use spurred by such societal factors.
