Overview

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has announced the Limited Competition: Small Grant Program for NIDDK K01/K08/K23/K25 Recipients. This scheme is open to those who have received NIDDK support via K01, K08, K23, or K25 awards. Offering additional Small Grant (R03) support, the program is designed to bolster the opportunities for these recipients towards the end of their K award period.

The goal of the NIDDK is to boost the research abilities of K01, K08, K23, and K25 recipients. Through the extension of this Small Grant support, the institute intends to facilitate recipients' transition to fully independent investigator status.

The R03 grant mechanism spans several kinds of projects. These include pilot and feasibility studies, secondary analysis of existing data, small self-contained research projects, as well as development of research methodology and creation of new research technology. The objective of R03 is to back research projects that require limited resources, can be completed in a short time frame, and may yield preliminary data that could support the application for a larger R01 award, or an equivalent, in the future.
